Description

MAIS project aims to work in the field of active and intelligent mobility in Sfax and it will do so through innovative actions that will be based on giving support to the Municipality of Sfax in the preparation, implementation and monitoring of all project activities as well as the financial management.

MedCities will also support the relations with the donor and other technical partners and coordinate the drafting of a good practices study. Also, the project is engaged to ensure understanding and alignment with European project management rules. From MedCities, the expertise management of EU procedures will be also at the city’s disposal as well as the implementation of capacity building activities. The MAIS project will ensure the effective communication and dissemination of the Project activities and results.

General objective  

To promote the transition of the agglomeration of Sfax towards green and resilient urban development in the face of climate change, through sustainable urban mobility and contributing to national commitments in terms of energy-saving and promotion of renewable energies and international commitments (Agenda SDG 2030).

Specific objectives

The main activities and objectives of the project are:

  • To improve the quality of life of citizens of the municipalities of Sfax and Chihia through active and intelligent mobility initiatives, energy-efficient and low carbon intensity.
  • Strengthen the capacity of city actors to implement actions in favor of sustainable mobility, through the promotion of multi-level partnerships, innovative financing schemes and awareness-raising, and transfer of successful experiences to Tunisian cities and the southern neighborhood.

Beneficiary

The main beneficiaries are the municipality of Sfax. Upscaling transferring activities could benefit a wider array of member municipalities.

Main SDGs addressed

Target 3.6 By 2020, halve the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic accidents.; Target 11. 2 Aims to, by 2030, provide access to safe, affordable, accessible and sustainable transport systems for all, improving road safety, notably by expanding public transport, with special attention to the needs of those in vulnerable situations – women, children, persons with disabilities and older persons.
