The publication analyzes the integration of rivers in cities and a study on the mobility around the riverbed. The presentation took place on November 30, 2016  in Málaga.

The CIEDES Foundation presents its second study on the river, a complete document divided into 7 sections analyzing the integration of various riverbeds in urban environments, taking as an example eight actions carried out at a national and international level.

The document shares different experiences implemented in Spain such as the Manzaneres riverbed in Madrid; the “Rambla de Belén” in Almería; the Turia river park in Valencia or the integration of the river Genil in the city of Granada. At an international level, the actions analyzed are the urban riverbeds of Seoul (South Korea), Medellin (Colombia), Nice (France) and Mexico D.F. (Mexico).

On the other hand, the document includes all the activities carried out by the CIEDES Foundation as “Office of the River”, among noteworthy are the graffiti competitions; the project “Malaga, Urban Art (Maus) in Soho”; or the drafting of a protocol that determines the necessary conditions to use the riverbed for cultural and leisure activities following the security standards marked by the Andalusia Government.

Another key point of this publication is the “Preliminary study on the mobility in the river area”, that carries out a compilation of the main proposals that were submitted to the Guadalmedina contest. Most of the projects point to the need to reduce traffic in the surroundings of the river. Currently, the left bank that has two main roads channels about 30,000 movements per day (32%), while the right bank mobilizes about 66,000 vehicles a day (68%) in its four main roads. Global north-south movements are balanced (50,000 northward movement and 47,000 southward movement).

Concerning the road management, most of the proposals focus their actions in reducing the traffic in the zone of the “Armiñan Bridge” and the river mouth. For this purpose, it is proposed to totally or partially burial the traffic in the area in one or both margins, keeping residential traffic on the surface, while expanding the capacity of some perimeter roads of the centre.

The definition and implementation of one or more transport interchanges with extensive parking areas, is also considered.

The document also includes the Special Plan of Guadalmedina foreseen in the General Urban Development Plan of Málaga 2011, as well as a chronology on the actions in the river, newspaper and photographs.
