On June 16th, the Steering Committee of MedCities met in Sfax.
The General Secretary, Mr. Joan Parpal, presented the activity report since the last General Assembly and reported about future projects preparation.
The Steering Committee also dealt with the constitution process of the association, by summarizing this process since the last General Assembly, which voted new statutes and two main points to focus on: a new legal status to be provided by the network and the admission of new cities. New deadlines to meet were also established, culminating in the recording of such statutes in the Register of the Spanish Ministry as the way to legally constitute the Medcities / Medcités association.
With regards to the next General Assembly, to be held in Izmir as proposed in Barcelona in November 2013, the Steering Committee set the date for November, 20-21. Further information will be provided in the coming months.
Finally, the member of the Steering Committee discussed on the confluence of the USUDS Platform and the Medcities website was discussed by the attendants. The Secretary General said that the unification of both platforms of information is intended to allow the platform to offer unified contents in a single format in order to handle information in a more easy way.
In the framework of the Med4Waste project, more than 50 participants took part in the project’s seminar entitled “Towards sustainable models of local governance for integrated and circular policies for urban waste management" that took place in Mahdia.
MedCities participated in the ENSERES capitalization event in Tyre and had the opportunity to share the outcomes with member cities in a fruitful visit with different Lebanese representatives.
A two day training was organized with Irbid Municipality in order to exchange and learn about the fundamentals of energy audit, which were the lessons learned from Irbid municipality when auditing their municipal buildings.
