On May 18th-19th MedCities participated in the 1st edition of Smart City Expo Casablanca organised by Smart City Expo – Fira de Barcelona. This is one of the four territorial Smart City Expo organised during 2016 as a preparation of the Smart City Expo Barcelona, which will take place next November 15-17 in Barcelona. The other three were organised in Puebla (Mexico), Kyoto (Japan) and Istanbul (Turkey)

The event was an excellent occasion for decision-makers, civil society, business sector and other stakeholders to share best practices and common solutions for the development of cities in the coming years. The different experiences presented showed how technology can contribute to the development of cities if it is put at the service of people in order to increase welfare and reduce inequalities.

MedCities was invited to invervene in a Parallel session entitled “Facing climate change: renewable energy local commitments” in which different experiences from Mediterranean cities were presented as well as the need to include local governments in the search of smart solutions to city challenges. Other members of the network such as Marseille and Tetouan also participated in this important event.
