The CMI puts together different actors and donors working for development in the Mediterranean
On November 18th, Mr. Joan Parpal, Secretary General of Medcities, participated in the annual meeting of the Marseille Center for Mediterranean Integration (CMI). The meeting was a opportunity to assess the work done during last year and it was attended by Nouredine El Kaabi, Secretary of State for the Minister of Development and International Cooperation of Tunisia, and Ahmed Galal, Egypt’s Minister of Finance. This is the first annual meeting chaired by Mr. Fouad Ezzine, the new director of the CMI which substituted last September Mr. Mats Karlsson, in office for the last four years.
Medcities actively participates in the CMI in the Urban Hub in which, relevant international institutions working on urban sustainable development in the Mediterranean meet periodically in order to coordinate their activities and find synergies among themselves. Joint missions have been undertaken like the one developed in Sfax in January 2013 between Medcities, Caisse des Dépôts et Conseignements (CDC) and the World Bank.
CMI is an innovative approach to international cooperation, promoting the coordination between donors and international organisations and countries. Its cooperative and integrated approach guarantees the coherence of the interventions of the different actors and the capitalisation of initiatives.
