Last 18 and 19 of January Medcities participated in the 7th session of ARLEM.
During the session ARLEM members adopted the thematic reports of 2015 on Employment and territorial development in the Mediterranean region (rapporteur. Ms Eleni Loucaidou, Deputy Mayor of Nicosia) and the report on Sustainable urban agenda for the Mediterranean region (rapporteur, Mr Fawzi Masad, City Manager at Greater Amman Municipality).
ARLEM also discussed on the migrations in the Mediterranean, the situation of the local authorities in Libia, the revision of the European Neighborhood policy and the adoption of the recommendations and action plan for 2016.
Medcities was represented by the Mayor of Tetouan, Mohammed Idaomar, and the Secretary General, Xavier Tiana. Mr. Idaomar met with the Mayor of Tripoli (Libia), Abdlrauf H. Beitelmal and Mayor of Rabbat, Mohamed Sadiki, that showed their interest to join Medcities. A meeting with Larnaka was also organized to discuss future projects and activities.
In the framework of the Med4Waste project, more than 50 participants took part in the project’s seminar entitled “Towards sustainable models of local governance for integrated and circular policies for urban waste management" that took place in Mahdia.
MedCities participated in the ENSERES capitalization event in Tyre and had the opportunity to share the outcomes with member cities in a fruitful visit with different Lebanese representatives.
A two day training was organized with Irbid Municipality in order to exchange and learn about the fundamentals of energy audit, which were the lessons learned from Irbid municipality when auditing their municipal buildings.
