This week MedCities visited Zgharta Ehden Municipality on the occasion of the final event of the LASERMed local project in the municipality that benefited over 30 local producers, youngsters, and entrepreneurs that have been engaged during the last three months.

The visit counted on a special group of guests, the city council of El Prat de Llobregat, represented by the head of the economic promotion department, Mrs. Agustina Rodríguez, and Mr. Xavier Gimenez, officer involved in the city council’s ambitious strategy to generate economic opportunities targeting vulnerable groups. The group was accompanied by Mr. Ruben Bagüés, co-founder of the local cooperative Heres Social.

The two days visit brought the institutions involved to meet with a very interesting and diverse range of social local and cooperative initiatives, in the fields of local olive oil soap and refashioning, but also health assistance, women’s support, or IT services.

Mr. Ghassan Tayoun, elected member of the Zgharta Ehden city council hosted the group and complemented the visit with a sightseeing from Ehden, the other territory of the municipality, and animated the final event. From MedCities we thank him for his support during the visit.

Finally, it is worth mentioning the presence of the Diputacio De Barcelona‘s services for economic promotion, Mr. David Sanchez, and international cooperation, Mrs. Nuria Fernández, who participated actively in the visits. The Diputació de Barcelona has been a key supporting actor throughout the project.

Exchanges focus on the role municipalities can play in the dynamization of the social and civic environment of the territory but also on identifying the priorities and planning accordingly.

Now, the local council from Zgharta-Ehden and the associations involved are seeking ways to give continuity to the initiatives in a coordinated and sustainable way.
