Last 12th March 2014, the KTC of AlFayhaa visited the Municipality of Zgharta- Ehden, located in the East of Tripoli, to disseminate the USUDS project and explain its methodology.
Zgharta -Ehden is a Municipality in North Lebanon to the east of Tripoli. The Municipality signed a cooperation agreement with the General Council of the Aude in France. The agreement is supported financially by the French Ministry of Foreign affairs.
The objective of the agreement is to accompany the Municipality and its staff in the elaboration of a sustainable development strategy. The Strategy Zgharta – Ehden 2025 was finalized in November 2014. However it still needs to propose transversal themes and elaborate a strategic frame including a vision, a mission and strategic axes. An action plan highlighting the « Quick Win » projects is also needed.
Al Fayhaa explained to the two council members the objectives of USUDS, the mission of the KTC and how the platform will function and were given a document in English and arabic explaining the whole process of Best Practices.The KTC will be a good tool in helping the municipality in the above mentioned activities related to their Zgharta – Ehden 2025 strategy and also in their decentralized cooperation process. The Municipality was also informed about the important role the KTC will play in the new project on communication networking that the concept note was retained recently by the EU.
The Municipality of Zgharta Ehden joined recently the Medcities network.
In the framework of the Med4Waste project, more than 50 participants took part in the project’s seminar entitled “Towards sustainable models of local governance for integrated and circular policies for urban waste management" that took place in Mahdia.
MedCities participated in the ENSERES capitalization event in Tyre and had the opportunity to share the outcomes with member cities in a fruitful visit with different Lebanese representatives.
A two day training was organized with Irbid Municipality in order to exchange and learn about the fundamentals of energy audit, which were the lessons learned from Irbid municipality when auditing their municipal buildings.
