The 2014-2020 Interreg MED Cooperation Program was approved by the European Commission on 2nd June 2015.

The 22 and 23 of June 2015 the Interreg MED celebrated the Interreg Med Kick-off event. This event was the occasion for the INTERREG MED Program officially launch the 2014-2020 programming period and to discuss about the innovative solutions offered by Mediterranean cooperation to jointly tackle global challenges.

Mediterranean stakeholders and policy makers has engage in a high-level debate about the hot topics on the EU agenda and has taken a look over the past 15 years of cooperation in the Mediterranean and its benefits.  The MED Program will illustrate its future contribution to the global governance effort of the Mediterranean area.

On Tuesday 23rd, the focus was put on more technical questions concerning the new INTERREG MED Program. The new approach and priorities for 2014-2020 were presented with a special emphasis on the program’s expectations. Members of the Joint Secretariat provide technical and thematic orientation to potential project partners for the first call in order to allow for relevant applications and quality project developments.

From 23rd June, a preparation period is opened to allow project partners to prepare their application before submitting it. The First call for modular projects proposals will be opened from 1st September 2015 to 2nd November 2015. The co-financing rate for partners not concerned by state aid is 85%. The co-financing rate for economic operators and structures concerned by state aid is 85% or 50% for private sector.

The total program budget for the 2014-2020 period amounts to 265 Mio €, composed of 224 Mio € ERDF (European Regional Development Fund), 9 Mio IPA (Instrument of Pre-Accession) and national co-funding.
