Climate change adaptation and mitigation are global engagements. Institutions cannot do the work alone. In the project ValEUr Gabès, the efforts have been focused on working to build a partnership that considers all the views of the public and private stakeholders in Gabès and engages them to be part of the solution to the climate crisis by promoting the NCWR view and practices in their jobs.

We finally published the regional conference summary document of presentations, conclusions, and recommendations of the regional conference “Urban Efficient Water: Mainstreaming Integrated Planning and Management Approaches“, held in November last year in Sfax, Tunisia. The document contains the conclusions and clear recommendations for technicians and policymakers to consider best practices on NCWR at a local, national, and regional level. Besides, at the end of April, 35 architects and civil technicians in the Gabès, Sfax, and Medenine regions were invited to the training “Systems and techniques of urban water valorisation” in the Municipality of Gabès. The training explored two key aspects. On the one hand, it has presented the best-adapted nature-based solution for rainwater management in the Gabesian public space. On the other side, the expert presented technical, economic, and legal issues on water reuse in Tunisian buildings. Both approaches raised much interest from the participants, who were also awarded a certificate for the number of hours and contents of the project.

Finally, yet importantly, Gabès municipality launched the public tender to build the pilot structures for the capping and infiltrating basin as well as the rainwater deposit on the roof of the municipal stadium. This is the beginning of the end of the project!
