We are pleased to invite you to the online presentation of the guide entitled ‘Local action for sustainable socio-economic development in the Mediterranean’, which will take place on 9 December 2024, from 1.30 pm to 3 pm (CET).

This guide is the result of work carried out by the LASERMED Community, and summarises the thinking behind the practical opportunities for municipalities to become key players in the socio-economic promotion of vulnerable populations, while integrating an environmental perspective. The event will be conducted in French, with English interpretation.

The presentation will be introduced by Josep Canals, Secretary General of MedCities, and Núria Ferrés, responsible for Mediterranean cooperation at Barcelona Provincial Council. Following a presentation of the results of the LASERMED24 project by Alba Guitart, Project Officer at MedCities, Mariem Oueslati, Facilitator of the LASERMED community, will detail the contents of the guide. She will provide an overview of possible actions to encourage economic activity, and present two legal tools, two analytical tools, two networking tools and two project schemes.

The LASERMED24 project aims to support municipalities in identifying and implementing concrete, concerted actions to promote local socio-economic development that is participatory, sustainable and focused on the needs of vulnerable populations. It has received technical and financial support from Barcelona Provincial Council and has been steered by MedCities, in collaboration with the network’s member municipalities, notably Agadir (Morocco) and Zarqa (Jordan).
