MedCities organises an online session on ‘last mile’ mobility challenges on 22 December 2024.

One first step is to integrate the freight transport activity into the city’s sustainable urban mobility plans, and for that the Sustainable Urban Logistics Plan (SULP) model proposed by the European Union can be an interesting tool. This was the case for the city of Bologna, where a comprehensive diagnosis was conducted to understand the typologies and impacts of the sector on the city’s mobility patterns. Other Mediterranean cities, like the city of Rethymno, can share their experience drafting and deploying their SULP. Beyond planning, the need to decrease logistics’ impact on traffic congestion or pollution, the last-mile delivery, is addressed through the promotion of cyclologistics in the Area Metropolitana of Barcelona (AMB), the use of new technologies to better manage and
monitor the sector like the one proposed by the company Dynicon, or by setting up urban hubs to replace heavy polluting vehicles with smaller electric vans and reduce the carbon footprint of the distribution value-chain.

Date and place

11 December, upon invitation only
