A seminar on “Sustainable Urban Mobility: Confronting air pollution and climate change” was held in Thessaloniki, Greece, on 22 May.

The event, organised by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and hosted by the Metropolitan Development Agency of Thessaloniki SA, was part of the REMEDIO project, which aims to strengthen the capacity of cities to use low carbon transport systems. The seminar focused on the topics of traffic-related pollutant emissions and air pollution, traffic-related carbon footprint, and innovative urban mobility infrastructures.

REMEDIO (REgenerating mixed-use MED urban communities congested by traffic through Innovative low carbon mobility sOlutions) is part of the Urban Transport Community, created through the GO-SUMP project in the framework of the Interreg MED Programme. MedCities is a GO-SUMP partner and is particularly active in community building activities among the different projects that are currently developing Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan solutions through the framework of Interreg MED.

During the seminar, MedCities offered a view of the urban mobility challenges that Mediterranean cities are currently facing, addressing the reality of south and east Mediterranean cities to the partners and stakeholders of the REMEDIO project. An emphasis was placed on the capitalisation opportunities for existing solutions and for methodologies and approaches tested in the Mediterranean region, focusing especially on the transfer of experiences through MedUrbanTools, the new knowledge-transfer platform launched by MedCities.
