The annual conference of the Catalunya Europa Foundation is the premier gathering for all individuals and organizations who share and promote Pasqual Maragall’s legacy. A meeting point for forging alliances, renewing ideas, and continuing to work for a more just, open, and deeply European society.

This year, under the title The Mediterranean of Cities, and 30 years after the launch of the Euro-Mediterranean dialogue from Barcelona, we will dedicate the event to two of Maragall’s most vibrant and universal ideas: the Mediterranean as a space for cooperation and cities as protagonists in international politics.

In 1995, Barcelona was the setting for the Conference of Mediterranean Cities, promoted by Maragall, which preceded the Euromediterranean Summit of Heads of State and Government and gave rise to the Barcelona Process. Thirty years later, in a world beset by climate crises, inequalities, old conflicts, and new authoritarianisms, we revive that spirit to ask ourselves: what remains of the Euromediterranean project? What role can cities play today in restoring hope, peace, and cooperation between the two shores?

Cities are re-emerging as actors with a voice of their own, laboratories where global challenges and local solutions coexist. We will discuss this with the guests of this new edition of the conference, which will invite us to rethink the present and future of the Euro-Mediterranean dialogue.
