On May 24th, Barcelona Metropolitan Strategic Plan (PEMB), with the collaboration of Roca Barcelona Gallery organized the 6th Strategic Breakfast, to discuss the challenges of metropolitan Barcelona from the perspective of growth and cohesion.

The event was chaired by the President of the Executive Committee and Vice-President of Strategic Planning of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB), Joan Trullén, and 70 people attended.

To address this issue, Mr. Antonio Balmon, mayor of Cornellà, vice-president of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona and vice president of PEMB was invited in order to present his views about the topic.

According to A. Balmón, the priority function of the AMB is to seek paths – more than solutions – to address the difficult situation caused by the crisis, especially as it affects citizens (for example, fuel poverty). AMB’s experience should allow it to bring answers, but to be able to face these problems is necessary to previously identify them as such.

Despite the severe effects of the crisis, companies and institutions continue to work to survive, they cannot stop. The AMB should contribute to ending the crisis but in these times, it becomes very difficult to define how the city of the future will be. For this reason, more work and engagement is needed – as it is already happening but at the same time we must continue thinking about the metropolitan future.
