MedCities took an active part in the launching event in Rabat of the UrbA-CliMa programme in Morrocco, led by GIZ. The full-day event gathered representatives of municipalities and provincial governments from across the country to discuss the objectives and activities of the project.

The project helps partner cities in the Maghreb adapt to the consequences of climate change. To this end, it implements capacity-building measures. It therefore develops the capacities of municipal administrations and the skills of their experts and managers.

Based on climate risk profiles, the participating cities develop municipal strategic plans for climate change adaptation. In this context, they pay particular attention to vulnerable populations in the name of the principle of “Leaving no one behind”. The project then advises cities on the implementation of their strategic plans as well as on securing third-party funding to ensure the financial sustainability of the measures.

In addition, it collaborates with MedCities to disseminate good practices in climate adaptation, proven on a transnational scale. The network will also facilitate the exchange of expertise on adaptation strategies and measures between municipalities to support the development and implementing of effective local policies. These practical solutions concern areas such as circular waste management, energy efficiency, or geographic information systems, which have already been developed in the two previous phases of the project.
