The InCircle project aims at supporting touristic insular and low density territories in their transition towards a more circular tourism. During the first phase of the project, partners developed a set of tools that were used to build the circular tourism strategies of the partner territories. These were a circular economy assessment tool; a tool to develop participatory processes, and a tool to evaluate the circularity of resulting strategies.

MedCities is now coordinating the capitalisation phase of the project, in which six new territories are joining InCircle to enhance their circular tourism. As well as leader of the capitalisation work package, InCircle is also working hand to hand with one of such replicating territories: Berguedà county.

As part of the activities related to InCircle, the Berguedà Development Agency organised during the month of March a series of three stakeholder working groups. During three mornings, different actors from the tourist sector of the county worked together to visualise where should the tourist sector walk towards. As a result of this participatory process, the development agency knows now which are the objectives of the sector in relation with the four InCircle pillars: Waste, Energy, Water and Mobility.

In paral·lel, the Berguedà Development Agency, together with the external expert provided by the project and guided by the circularity evaluation experts Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (Pisa), they have assessed the current level of circularity of the tourist sector of el Berguedà.

As a result of these two processes, the territory will be able to create a circular tourism strategy which is based on the current status of circularity and the recommendations provided by the experts of Sant’Anna, as well as on the visions, bottlenecks and objectives identified during the stakeholder working groups.

In addition, during the stakeholder working groups, a set of activities related to the objectives of the sector were proposed. These are all based in one of the four InCircle pillars. During the lifespan of the project, MedCities and the Berguedà Development Agency will implement one of these activities as part of the InCircle project.
