On 16 May, in collaboration with the Mediterranean Action Plan of the United Nations Environment Program, MedCities organised a roundtable on sustainable planning and management in Mediterranean cities.

The roundtable formed part of the Sustainable Built Environment conference, organised by the International Initiative for a Sustainable Built Environment, which was held in Scilla, Italy, 16 and 17 May.

Participating in the roundtable were the MedCities member-city Sousse – which was represented by Deputy Mayor Ms. Kawther Medoui – San Cugat del Vallès (which forms part of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona) and AVITEM (the Agency for Sustainable Mediterranean Cities and Territories).

During the session, Gerard Riba and Marta Oliver of the City Council of Sant Cugat presented the various innovative measures put in place by the municipality over recent years in the areas of public lighting, the circular economy, mobility and energy efficiency in public buildings (the presentation is available for download here). The examples presented – which provoked a notable level of interest among the attendees – will be collected and published on the MedUrbanTools knowledge-sharing platform.
