The seminar and conference aimed to reinforce the knowledge exchange and transferring of project outputs addressing mobility city experts and technical advisors. The MedCities’ members participating in the sessions, Larnaka, Limassol, Sfax, Palma, Malaga, Limassol and the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB), introduced different Mediterranean mobility contexts and city profiles. In addition, the city experts presented their last updates on mobility planning and urban initiatives, where assessing the potential of replication of the main project’s results of the Interreg-MED UTC, introduced and tested during the sessions.

The TechCamp gathered representatives of projects from the community, partners of the GO SUMP project, as well as associated partners and external experts. The CIRCLE/SMILE conference brought together 300 participants, ministers, mayors, representatives of the EU and DG MOVE, universities and other Mediterranean experts.

Morning presentations:

Presentation of the SUMPORT project by M. Miltiadou of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and more particularly the parking and public transport application developed in Koper (Slovenia), as well as the carpooling application for port workers developed in Valencia (Spain)

Presentation by M. Rivera of the iCiTy strategy of Palma (Spain) to address mobility challenges and of Victoria, the municipality bus operator. The strategy aims to involve citizens in mobility policy making and to strenghten links with the islands Mallorca, Menorca, Formentera and Eivissa.

Presentation by Dr Haj Taieb of the Sfax (Tunisia) Tramway project and its related ICT challenges such as new technologies for ticketing through QR codes, automatic ticket dispensers and passenger information through dynamic displays.

Presentation of M. Nared of the Interreg Europe SMART-MR project results regarding ICT, described as an efficient short-term solution and essential to address mobility challenges and to improve public transportation in Mediterranean cities.

Presentation by Mrs Chaumier from CODATU of the application developed for cycling routes in the French Riviera and ICT model for communication between different actors and planning instruments, developed in the frame of MOBILITAS project.

The afternoon was dedicated to the testing of ICT tools and the presentation of REMEDIO and MOTIVATE projects:

REMEDIO aims to regenerate Mediterranean communities congested by traffic through innovative low carbon mobility solutions and more specifically a participative governance that engage institutions, stakeholders and citizens. Here avilable the REMEDIO presentation and testing exercise.

MOTIVATE App is a crowdsourcing application that provide tool for cities that collects data from citizens in order to understand better daily trips and mobility. It promotes citizen participation to mobility planning.

The conclusion was an opportunity to discuss the replication and adaptability of the good practices and presented tools among the participating cities. For instance, regarding the MOTIVATE tool and the work done in Larnaka was deeply analyzed by Palma, aiming at assessing if it could have a direct replicability on the new mobility planning process currently under development. In addition, Sfax, Palma and the Metropolitan regions working in the SMART-MR project received the REMEDIO Modelling Tool with a high expectation of replicability in their urban contexts.

The direct exchanges among cities and projects, together with the open generated debate, broght the opportunity to generate concrete lings among the participants while capitalizing the Interreg-MED results into other Mediterranean territories.

Next steps, a High Level Training Course on Sustainable Mobility will be organized in Barcelona 11-13 June 2019.

In the frame of Community Building and Capitalization activities of GO SUMP project, a series of High Level Training Courses on Sustainable Mobility targeting Mediterranean Cities are being developed, aiming at consolidating the capacity building and urban transferring practices within the Interreg-MED Urban Transport Community (UTC) and Mediterranean stakeholders.

It will have a special focus on engaging south Mediterranean cities on the transferring processes for promoting a more comprehensive sustainable mobility policies and practices among cities sharing a common living environment. The topics, which will be addressed, are focusing on two key domains identified by the UTC, which will be deployed into two parallel training courses: 1st High Level Training Course: “Financing Sustainable Mobility” and 2nd High Level Training Course: “Tourism & Mobility Nexus”
