The Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem Nexus (WEFE Nexus) approach highlights the interdependence of Water, Energy, Food security, and Ecosystems. Bringing this concept in the solutions design, and identifying the trade-offs and mutually beneficial responses between the different pillars is necessary in order to create more sustainable and long-lasting solutions, particularly in the context of climate change.
This, however, requires enhanced governance systems and strong collaboration between practitioners and actors involved in the different sectors.
Last November 22nd, WEFE4Med project initiated a process to co-create a community of practice to facilitate knowledge exchange and build capacities. The co-creation event counted with more than 70 participants from PRIMA projects which will bring the WEFE concept into practice.
Some discussions in working groups helped to detect the need to mainstream the WEFE concept and facilitate the adoption of the WEFE Nexus concept, involve public authorities, transfer results into policies, etc. The project partners will now work hand in hand in order to foster the creation of a community of practice and provide it with services that fit the gaps and needs detected during the co-creation event.
The next steps will come in the following months so stay tuned for news to come!
