On 6 July President of MedCities, Mohamed Idaomar, and Secretary General Xavier Tiana met with the Secretary General of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), the global network of local governments.

The meeting addressed the need to coordinate a strategy for action at the Mediterranean level in which various networks and actors can participate, and where MedCities plays a central role. The possibility of MedCities and UCLG working on joint projects was also discussed.

The occasion of the meeting was the First World Forum on Intermediary Cities, held in in Chefchaouen, Morocco, 5-7 July. An initiative of UCLG, the Forum on Intermediary Cities is designed to help drive the implementation of global sustainable development agendas at the local level. It is a consultation and policy-development process that culminates in an event every two years.

At the Forum, President Idaomar formally invited Ms. Saiz to participate in the MedCities General Assembly, which will take place in Barcelona, 4-5 October.
