The different panels organised by CESBA-MED – a modular project within the Interreg Med Efficient Buildings Community – provided a full overview of different initiatives and actions at the Mediterranean scale in the areas of energy efficient buildings and sustainable city development. It included the participation of iiSBE, the UNEP-MAP and the Covenant of Mayors, among others.

The CESBA Neighborhood Award will deliver an overview of exemplary neighbourhoods in Europe, improve the quality of life for inhabitants, minimise negative impacts on climate and resources as well as capitalize key performance indicators on the CESBA SN-Tool (Sustainable Neighborhood Tool).

CESBA-MED intends to develop an innovative decision making model and a transnational common set of assessment tools to support the definition and implementation of actions targeted to optimise sustainability planning measures combining the building and urban scale.

The aim of the award is to disseminate and capitalise the tools and methodologies developed by CESBA-MED partners for rating the sustainability of MED urban areas. More information on the award can be found HERE.

MedCities contributed to the event through the presentation of its new toolkit, MedUrbanTools. The toolkit is an on-line platform designed for elected officials, technical staff of cities, experts and other actors interested in urban issues in the Mediterranean. It will contribute by sharing knowledge, tools, visual materials and best practices in the domain of sustainable urban development.

MedUrbanTools is structured in three main sections: Cases, Voices and Resources, including contents organized in different areas of urban and metropolitan policy management. It will increase the experiences of more cities and resources in the field of urban policies, so that it could become a reference instrument in the Mediterranean region.

MedCities has developed this new product based on the opinions and recommendations of relevant Mediterranean actors such as the WCC Urban Hub, which brings together experts from institutions such as the World Bank, Cities Alliance, GIZ, the French Development Agency (AFD), IEB, UNDP, the Agency for Sustainable Mediterranean Cities and Territories (AVITEM) and CODATU.
