About 250 experts from 30 countries met last 10th to 12th April in Seville to share the latest developments on marine litter monitoring and abatement.
The International Forum on Marine Litter and Circular Economy (MARLICE) organized by the Spanish Marine Litter Association (AEBAM) counted with the support of UNEP MAP and the Spanish Ministry for Ecological Transition and several EU funded projects among others.
MedCities convened together with ETC-UMA and Plan Bleu the PANACEaA session aimed to showcase the results of the projects addressing this topic within the Interreg Med Biodiversity Protection Community and debate about the pending challenges as the way ahead considering policy, science and management priorities.
The session counted with the participation of partners from the Interreg MED Projects Act4Litter, AMARE, MedSeaLitter and PlasticBustersMPA, managers of marine protected areas from Cabrera (Balearic Islands) and Cabo de Gata-Nijar (Andalucía) and key Mediterranean experts. Participants agreed on the relevance of the 9 recommendations stemming from the Biodiversity Protection Community joint Policy Report « Tackling Marine Litter in the Mediterranean: Knowledge and Tools » and discussed concrete actions to address them at different levels.
