The first months of the year have been crucial to put on track the renewed Interreg MED thematic Communities and facilitate a smooth transition from the previous horizontal projects. MedCities leads the Urban Transports Community and is the Communications leader for Biodiversity Protection and both projects advance as planned.

Even though all members of our communities are affected by the current situation and unable to hold face to face meetings and events, the work does not stop and we are taking the opportunity to focus on the strategic planning of different components of the project.

The Urban Transport Community is focusing on developing the action plan of the project, detailing the actions and steps that will lead to an effective replication of innovative sustainable mobility measure in Mediterranean cities, knowledge transfer among mobility experts and advocacy. New trends on sustainable mobility will only be effective if they are bedded on the very specific features of cities in the Mediterranean, including density and traffic congestion or exposure to mass tourism.

The Biodiversity Protection Community is giving final shape to very ambitious and targeted communication, community building and capitations strategies which will be soon shared with the full community via a webinar. We just released a «transitional» newsletter introducing our renewed Community which we invite all readers to explore and subscribe. The Community will continue its efforts to provoke and support those transformative changes needed to recover and maintain healthy ecosystems, hoping that the current health crisis triggers our societies to strongly demand the so crucial change of paradigm.
