On January 12th 2021, in Tunis, MedCities and the Municipality of Tunis will co-host the official kick-off event of the City Development Strategy of Tunis (CDS Tunis): «The future of Tunis: metropolitan, Mediterranean and sustainable». 

This event takes place in the frame of the «A’SIMA Tunis project: Strategic planning and multilevel governance for a metropolitan and resilient city«, funded by the EU Delegation in Tunisia. The Mayor of Tunis, Ms. Souad Abderrahim, will officially launch the process of elaborating a participatory City Development Strategy, with the aim of providing a sustainable and inclusive future to the capital city of Tunisia, in line with its metropolitan challenges. Ms. Abderrahim will be joined by MedCities’ Secretary General, Mr. Josep Canals Molina and Director Mr. Oriol Barba, and political representatives from the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona.

The objective of this conference is to launch the participatory process of strategic urban planning to the institutional and technical stakeholders at the local, national and Mediterranean level, in order to create the relevant alliances and enhance their implication in the process.

 

The conference will take place from 9h to 11h, in which the Mayor of Tunis will present the CDS «participative process for a shared vision and future of the City of Tunis» and there will be a roundtable on the implication of institutional and city actors (both from the public and private sector). The conference will be followed by a technical seminar on the «Challenges of strategic urban planning in Tunis», with roundtables on how to organize a resilient and metropolitan city, as well as potential synergies with donors and other technical partners in Tunisia.
