The GO SUMP project – which houses the Urban Transports Community (UTC) of the Interreg MED programme – is due to come to a close in October 2019 and, in the coming months, will be launching a series of activities. The events will facilitate the capitalisation of the results of the various modular projects of the community, which are also entering their final phases.

As a partner of GO SUMP, MedCities will contribute to the coordination of several technical events on the theme of urban mobility in the Mediterranean area, two of which will take place this coming March.

In Brussels, 20-21 March, the GO SUMP project is organising a series of meetings and a communication laboratory to provide inspiration and lay the groundwork for future joint activities. On 20 March, the MED UTC is invited to learn more about funding opportunities offered by the Horizon Europe framework programme, focusing on Mediterranean cooperation and transport. This session will be an opportunity to meet the relevant EU Commission’s Directorates-General of international cooperation in the field of research and education, as part of the UNIMED 2019 events series.
The second day of the event – organised by Eurocities, the GO SUMP partner responsible for capitalisation activities – will consist of a networking breakfast followed by a debate, which will be attended by Brussels-based stakeholders in sustainable urban mobility in the Mediterranean region along with representatives of major European cities. The event will give the MED UTC the opportunity to gain insight into mobility issues specific to tourist areas and to exchange ideas with Directorates-General of the EU Commission and other stakeholders. From 27-29 March, the UTC will gather in Nicosia, Cyprus, at the CIRCLE2019 (Challenges for the Islands in the era of the Circular Economy) and SMILE2019 (6th Sustainable Mobility & Intelligent Transport Conference) conferences organised by the Cyprus Ministry of Transport, Communication and Works.
As well as being an opportunity to showcase the results of the Modular Projects, on 27 March the community will use the opportunity of the conferences to hold TechCamp – a workshop to present and test the ICT tools developed within the Urban Transports Community and further experiences among the participating stakeholders. The seminar will involve two sessions: 1) an introduction to the activities deployed by Modular Projects supported by ICT technologies, and 2) a testing session which will showcase a data collection app and an urban modelling software.
In addition to the Modular Projects and partners in GO SUMP, the workshop will also benefit from the participation of GO SUMP’s associated partners, representatives of Mediterranean local authorities and urban mobility experts. Further information on the event is available here.

Before the conclusion of GO SUMP in October, the project will also implement a number of other activities:

In June 2019, ‘High Level Training Courses on Mobility’ will be conducted for partner cities, members of Eurocities and members of MedCities, with the aim of transferring the measures implemented in Modular Projects to cities beyond the UTC.
Two study-visits to city partners of the UTC will be conducted by Eurocities, focusing on mobility practices and policies.
In September 2019 the community will hold its final event on the occasion of the European Mobility Week, hosted by Malaga City Council.
