NATURMED project aims to contribute to increase urban resilience to climate change by promoting the naturalisation of urban spaces. The three working cities in which the project will focus its efforts are: Jerash, Bethlehem and Saida.

MedCities is supporting the relationship with the donor, the technical partners, and the city members. Also, the project is engaged to ensure understanding and alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals. MedCities ensures the effective communication and dissemination of the project activities and results.

Specific objectives

The main activities and objectives of the project are:

  • Determine strategic actions to increment and enhance the use of green infrastructure, aligned with the interests and needs of the municipalities and their populations.
  • Promote exchange of knowledge and good practices, as well as capacity building and awareness raising activities between some of MedCities members (Barcelona, Saida, Bethlehem, Jerash and other interested members).

Expected achievements

Tailored methodology to determine the current status of green elements in a city and to define a set of strategic actions to increase and enhance them.

Diagnosis of the current status of green areas/elements in the cities of Bethlehem, Jerash, and Saida.

Determination of a set of strategic actions to increase/enhance the use of green infrastructure in the three participating cities.

Definition of a pilot project for the participatory creation of green spaces in the three cities.

Increasing awareness of citizens on the benefits of green infrastructure in the cities Capitalising results of the project by sharing with interested MedCities members the methodology created, the diagnosis and set of strategic actions determined for each city.

Beneficiary

The main beneficiaries are the municipalities of Saida, Bethlehem and Jerash. Upscaling transferring activities could benefit a wider array of member municipalities.
