MedCities and the Cooperation Department of the Barcelona Provincial Council (DIBA, by its Catalan acronym) showcased their joint initiatives in Morocco during a meeting with Catalan stakeholders engaged with activities and projects in Morocco. The meeting was organised by the European Union and the Foreign Action department of the Catalan government.
For instance, MedCities presented the LASERMED 2023 and 2024 editions.
This is the second time that MedCities participated in this meeting, the previous one being in June last year.
The online meeting, held on April 10th, was opened by Ms. Andrea Costafreda, the newly appointed Director General of the Development Cooperation Department of the Generalitat de Catalunya. She presented the strategic priorities for the annual cooperation plan, emphasizing a renewed focus on municipal and supra-municipal institutions. These actors are increasingly expected to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), often without the necessary resources.
The Barcelona Provincial Council, Barcelona City Council, and the Catalan Cooperation Fund for Development (FCCD, in Catalan) were invited to present their cooperation programmes to identify synergies and foster collaboration among stakeholders. Representatives from AECID and various NGOs present in the country were among the attendees.
The next meeting is tentatively scheduled to take place in person in Casablanca. We look forward to the opportunity to participate again and explore new avenues for partnership.
