On 27th March, the final seminar of COOP-VERD project took place in Nabeul Tunisia, in order to showcase the experience of the project in promoting sorting, recycling and recovery of plastic waste as part of the optimization of waste management in the city. 

The seminar was focused on presenting the results of the project in terms of plastic recovery and valorisation and improvement of the working conditions of the wastepickers. With the participation of 7 cities of the and the presence of national agencies and relevant local actors involved in waste management and valorisation, the seminar held an interactive session in order to facilitate the exchange of interesting experiences for plastic recovery in the country.

Furthermore, the official inauguration of the Eco-Point of Nabeul took place in the afternoon of the same day, with the presence of the Municipality of Nabeul, the Association ETE+, responsible for the management of the site, as well as MedCities representative, the network of Mediterranean cities of which the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona holds the secretariat. The Eco-Point is a sorting and balling facility created in the city centre of Nabeul in order to improve the income and working conditions of wastepickers, by reducing distance, avoiding intermediaries and taking into consideration the social criteria of the beneficiaries of the centre. The wastepickers had the opportunity to exchange with relevant national and local actors on the challenges that they face and the needs that this project has addressed.

COOP-VERD project, implemented by the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona, with funding from the Municipality of Barcelona, and has been ongoing from December 2016 until the end of March 2018, with the technical support of MedCities.
