The bilateral online discussions aimed to establish a strong linkage with the local authorities, to validate key findings of the survey questionnaires as well as to understand the municipal climate ambitions and identify priority sectors of intervention.

MedCities participated in two of these workshops, in order to accompany its members selected for the implementation of this initiative. Led by the mayor, the delegation of Sfax presented an analysis of the major climate challenges faced by the city as well as the priority areas in which the city would like to intervene. Soft mobility and electromobility, energy transition, rainwater management and the protection of the maritime front were discussed as some of the priority interventions for the city or future projects.

On the other hand, the city of Saida delegation, led by a municipal councilor and with the presence of the Disaster Risk Prevention Unit, identified extreme heat and flooding as the major risks of the city and targeted the following topics: rainwater collection and valorisation, green corridors and promoting urban permeability, green roofs, sustainable mobility, sustainable waste management as well as climate planning, in the frame of the City Development Strategy already under implementation.

Following these workshops, the MedCCA initiatives will collect and analyse relevant information and will organise a multilateral workshop in the following months in order to assist them in identifying concrete climate projects.
