During the last few months, a technical consultancy firm is supporting the partners in the preparation of the feasibility and construction studies of the three identified pilot infrastructures. In March a site visit was organised for data collection and the geotechnical and topographic studies are currently under preparation.

The project aims to improve non-conventional water resources management and valorisation and foresees the implementation of three pilot projects in the city of Gabès.

The pilots include the installation of a retention and infiltration basin for rainwater in a forest in the city centre, which communicates with a natural stream towards the second infiltration site, the Earth Square (Place de la Terre).  They will both be open-air basin designed as multifunctional sites.

The third pilot includes the implementation of two water collection tanks on the roof of the Municipal slaughterhouse and the Sports Centre of Gabès, both having a surface of 1000m2 and considered adequate for the implementation of the tanks. Apart from the pilots, the project advances in the preparation of an awareness-raising campaign. The first activity organised was the launch of the MEDWAYCAP Exhibition to Gabès, from 28 February to 14 March, in the Complexe Pilot Jeunes Gabès, reaching more than 200 citizens.

This itinerant exhibition illustrates a collection of solutions, case studies and methodologies with a particular focus on unconventional water use in urban and rural contex and was produced by ENI CBC MED project MEDWAYCAP, in collaboration with SVI.MED and CERTE. The rest of the activities of the campaign will take place during the month of May with the support of several civil society organisation and a special focus on kids and youth.
