Two delegations of Tunisian Municipalities, headed by the National Agency for Energy Management in Tunisia, visited the metropolitan area of Barcelona in a capacity-building mission for the exchange of expertise on sustainable mobility and management of public lighting.

The representatives of the cities of Sfax, Sousse and Nabeul had the opportunity to meet with the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona mobility experts and to familiarise with the metropolitan mobility plan with seeks to enhance public transport and active transport modes and to promote low energy demanding vehicles. Furthermore, they visited the city of Barcelona and its innovative urban renovation project « Superblocks » that promotes sustainable mobility through planning for proximity services and pacifying the transit in concrete areas. The representantives of the Municipality of Barcelona also presented the Bus Rapid Transit system and the multimodal connections in the city, as part of the Barcelona Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan.

A delegation of five Tunisian cities, comprised by Head of public lighting departments of Nabeul, Sousse, Bizerte, Tozeur and Mahdia Municipalities, visited the Municipality of Barcelona and the Municipality of Sant Cugat, in order to become acquainted with the management of public lighting service, the renewal of the network and the energy optimisation efforts done by the two cities. The latter also presented its experience in implementing an Energy Saving Contract for the management and maintenance of the network, which also allows testing small-scale innovation projects.

MedCities participates in Rev’ACTE project, under the leadership of the National Agency for Energy Management in Tunisia and coordinated by Ide-e, which aims at building the capacities of local authorities for the implementation of energy transition. The project is funded by ADEME and REPIC platform.
