BlueMissionMed will inspire, inform, assess, mobilise, connect and empower all the actors that can take a role in preventing and eliminating pollution in the Mediterranean sea and waters.
Description
The BlueMissionMed Coordination and Support Action (CSA) will design, structure and support a well-functioning basin scale innovation ecosystem, ensuring fast progress towards the achievement of Mission “Restore Our Oceans and Waters by 2030” objectives and important impact on society.
The project builds on, connects and structures existing initiatives and activities to disseminate and upscale solutions and mobilise relevant actors with the specific aim of addressing Objective 2 of the Mission, namely “prevent and eliminate pollution of our ocean, seas and waters by 30%-50% by 2030”.
BlueMissionMed will engage stakeholders from Policy, Business, Research&Innovation and Civil Society, as well as the so-called Ecosystem Enablers to synergize the actions of the Mission Lighthouse in the Mediterranean basin.
MedCities will particularly contribute to the project by engaging local authorities and local stakeholders and providing the municipal perspective to the gap analysis and policy recommendations and upscaling these outputs Mediterranean-wide. MedCities will also be in charge of the organisation of one of the mayor multi-stakeholder annual events in Barcelona by 2024.
Objectives
BLUE MISSION MED is a Horizon Europe Coordination and Support Action (CSA) aiming to support the EU Mission Restore our Oceans and Waters by 2030 by providing a holistic and coherent framework for developing a systemic approach to the depollution and regeneration of the basin hydrosphere, which is a striking need in the Mediterranean Sea. Specifically, the project will support the development and deployment of transformative innovative solutions in all forms: technological, social, business and governance
Beneficiary
BLUE MISSION MED project is intended as an interactive, multi-actors and transdisciplinary platform able to offer to all Mediterranean countries, regions, local authorities and stakeholders’ access to knowledge and tools with the aim to promote basin-wide cooperation, commitment and deployment of solutions addressing the Mediterranean Mission objectives. It will Inspire, Inform, Assess, Mobilise, Connect and Empower stakeholders from the Quadruple Helix (Research& Technology& Innovation, Policy& Governance, Business& Finance, Civil Society).
MedCities will particularly focus on the engagement and mobilisation of local authorities and local stakeholders and upscaling these outputs Mediterranean-wide through the network.
Partnership
BlueMissionMed involves a multi-actor, trans-sectorial and multidisciplinary consortium of 16 partners from 7 Mediterranean countries including R&I public institutions, NGOs, networks, Mediterranean industrial associations and SMEs.
