MedCities participated in the Workshop for Prioritization of Hazards & Identification of Priority Areas, bringing together key stakeholders of the Municipalities of Saida- Zahrani within the RESILIENCE project, funded and supported by the Barcelona City Council. Organized by the Municipality of Saida and the Hariri Foundation (MedCities observer member), it counted on the technical support of the Barcelona City Council, following a long record of city-to-city cooperation.

The workshop served to consult and validate the preliminary assessment of risks in terms of scale and severity, as well as to work out links among the risks. Existing policies, plans, and instruments to address them were explored to identify gaps.

The day after was dedicated to 1-to-1 meetings with mayors who could not attend the workshop, namely Aabra, Bramiyeh, and Aanqoun. The discussion was comprehensive in addressing the topics above and showing different challenges that the cities phase. A particular one is the mismanagement of waste, which continues to be a top priority, and preventing the allocation of resources to planning responses to other risks.

Later this year the Resilience Diagnosis report and map will be released, which will be the basis to work out a Resilience plan in 2026. This paves the way for the continuous support of MedCities in Saida.
