Project overview

RESILIENCE Project aims to help Mediterranean cities, in particular the cities of Bethlehem and Saida, towards the increase of their resilience. It will do so through the detection of vulnerabilities and risks in the city of Saida; through the increase of the economic and social capacities in the city of Bethlehem; and through the celebration of a workshop on city resilience for some of MedCities members.

DESCRIPTION:

The RESILIENCE Project aims to increase the multilevel resilience in the Mediterranean cities. In particular, it will work with the cities of Saida and Bethlehem to increase their resilience in the short and mid-term. In particular, the city of Saida will work towards the detection of hazards and vulnerabilities, and to assess particular actions that increase the city’s resilience. To do so, the City Resilience Profile Tool will be implemented in the city through a collaboration with UN-Habitat and the Barcelona City Council.

In the case of Bethlehem, the city will work towards increasing the economic, social, and psychological resilience of the city through the implementation of different activities. On the one hand, the RESILIENCE project aims to increase women’s capacity to create, design, and manage businesses. On the other hand, the project will promote cultural and artistic activities for children.

The project will also contribute to promoting Urban Resilience in other MedCities members through the implementation of the second session of the Barcelona Academy for Mediterranean Municipalities in Urban Resilience, which will take place in Barcelona during October 2025.

OBJECTIVES:

Increase the multilevel resilience of the cities of Saida and Bethlehem through a participative approach and technical workshops, aiming to support both municipalities in increasing their knowledge and tools to design a long-term resilience plan. Also, MedCities will accompany the process with a follow-up of the steps taken in terms of resilience in Saida and in economic development in Bethlehem.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

  • Increase the resilience of the city of Saida
  • Increase the economic and social resilience of the City of Bethlehem

SDG ADDRESSED:

SDGs: 5, 7, 17, especially number 11: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
