Between 11-13 June, the Interreg Med Urban Transports Community (UTC) will hold three days of training courses to capitalise on the work of the Community’s Modular Projects and facilitate the transfer of sustainable mobility measures to cities around Europe and the wider Mediterranean region.
The ‘High Level Training Courses on Sustainable Mobility’ – which will be held in Barcelona at the headquarters of the Barcelona Metropolitan Area – will present two parallel courses, each focusing on a key aspect of sustainable urban mobility. The ‘financing sustainable mobility’ course will familiarise participants with financing mechanisms and schemes for promoting sustainable city mobility, such as the management of city taxes, external financing schemes and the use of carbon credits. The ‘mobility and tourism nexus’ course will outline various methodologies and measures for addressing the sustainability and efficiency of tourism-related mobility.
The training courses are being organised by the GO SUMP horizontal project of the UTC – of which MedCities is a partner – and will feature training sessions from representatives of various UTC Modular Projects as well as other external experts.
In addition to pilot cities of the UTC, the courses will also bring together representatives from other Interreg Med communities – such as the BleuTourMed sustainable tourism community – and members of both the Eurocities and MedCities networks. The diverse range of participating cities will be exploited during a day of innovative ‘peer to peer’ learning sessions. During these sessions, UTC pilot cities and cities from outside the projects will engage in a mutual exchange of knowledge, experience and innovative practices related to sustainable mobility.
Among the cities participating are Agadir, Durres, Izmir, Lisbon, Montpellier, Nicosia and Tunis. More information on the UTC can be found here.
