Together with the Spanish Agency for Cooperation and Development (AECID), MedCities carried out a monitoring mission to El Mina (Lebanon) within the framework of the NATURIncMed project, to review the progress of the participatory process and the advances in defining the green infrastructure preliminary design for the municipality.

During the visit, the team of experts from CatalyticAction, responsible for the participatory process, presented the work developed over the last six months of collaboration with the Municipality of El Mina, which has enabled the gathering of the needs and vision of different local stakeholders and their integration into a co-designed preliminary design. This process has highlighted the importance of involving citizens and the municipal team.

The experts also showed AECID the selected site, explaining the potential application of various nature-based solutions that will be explored in the next phase of the project design.

The NATURIncMed project will continue with a capacity-building programme for the municipal team, which will be delivered in the other two pilots (Gabès and Madaba), based on their specific needs and identified knowledge gaps when planning and implementing green infrastructure. Similary, the pilot cities of Gabès and Madaba have also completed their diagnosis and participatory process with their respective preliminary designs.
