LASERMed25 initiative—Local Social and Environmental Development Initiative in the Mediterranean—supported by the Provincial Council of Barcelona (DIBA), first activities launching during July.

The most innovative action includes calculating the impact of local social policies and the Integrated Social Value Index (IVSI) for a reference organisation in Agadir and Zgharta-Ehden. On July 10, the expert consultancy firm on IVSI launched the activity with a two-hour session with the council members of both partner cities, as well as the local experts who will support them to develop a tailor-made index to calculate the social value. All partners welcomed the initiative with satisfaction, as this instrument will help them in terms of transparency and better decision making in terms of budget and impact. 

Besides, from July 15 to 16, 2025, MedCities carried out a follow-up mission in Agadir. The visit aimed to reinforce cooperation with the Commune of Agadir and local stakeholders to identify and co-develop green and inclusive socio-economic strategies that fall under the city priorities. The mission included the presentation of project objectives and methodology to five Local Council members, field visits to associations working with women, youth, and disabled population, and coordination meetings with the municipal social affairs department. Discussions focused on the feasibility study and identification of local actors for future activities, laying the groundwork for the upcoming technical mission in October.

Agadir is one of two pilot cities—alongside Zgharta-Ehden in Lebanon—implementing LASERMed25.

The project contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
