Launched in January 2022, the strategic framework phase of the City Development Strategy (CDS) of Tunis is coming to its finalisation during the month of September, after the launch of a successful communication and citizen participation campaign during the months of June and July 2022.

The campaign counted the active participation of more than 10.500 citizens, who approached one of the itinerant informative stands, which were present in several locations of the city or replied online. Citizens were asked to prioritise the strategic objectives for the city and metropolis of Tunis and imagine how they want their city to be in 2050. The campaign was also reinforced with other citizen participation activities, such as several workshops targeting migrant communities that were celebrated in June and the workshop “Tomorrow…my city” that targeted a group of adolescents and took place on the 12^th September. In the latter, the participants, 16 youth representatives were familiarised with the SDGs and were asked to imagine their city taking into consideration the objectives of the Agenda 2030. After these activities, the expert team reviewed the strategic framework of Tunis in order to reflect the priorities of both stakeholders and citizens.

In parallel, the team of experts elaborated the list of structural and strategic projects in line with the objectives and priorities identified, with guidance provided by the methodological expert of the project, in a training and working session that took place on the 8^th and 9^th September, as well as by experts of UN Habitat City Resilience Global Programme. The proposed project was inspired by the results of the stakeholder consultation workshops that took place in April 2022, followed up with interviews to several stakeholders. The reviewed 2050 Tunis Strategic Framework will be submitted for discussion and validation to the steering committee of the CDS Tunis on the 4th October, presided over by the Mayor of Tunis and with the participation of some 30 public and private institutions. This meeting will mark the finalisation of the most important part of the city strategy, relative to identifying the city’s priorities and those projects that will bring it closer to its objective, becoming an inclusive capital that guarantees citizens’ right to a sustainable city.
