Thirty professional photographers from Europe and the Maghreb have collaborated in « The Project Sfax », First Residence Euromaghrebine of Photographers organized by the EU Delegation in Tunisia.

“The Sfax Project” is the specific result of the work done by the European Union in order to bring closer the people of the south and north banks of the Mediterranean within the framework of the european partnership.

This initiative came out from the support to the candidacy of the Sfax Medina to become part of the Worl Heritage of the UNESCO and to make public the cultural heritage and the traditions of the city, inherited from the numerous civilizations that stayed here in the past centuries, a reflection of the mediterranean history and also a link between the East, the West, and Africa.

From the 20th to the 23d of May, the 30 photographers haven been accompanied by the local authorities and by the neighbours, discovering the specificities of the sfaxian life and getting to know the patrimony of the city, both material and immaterial, creating a platform of dialogue and exchange between the artists and the people. This project appears in a moment of social and cutlural redefinition for Tunisia.
