The Metropolitan City of Bologna hosted last December 14th and 15th the 4th MADRE international meeting focused this time on Transnational Networking. Core of the meeting was the presentation of good practices of urban and peri-urban agriculture in the 6th involved metropolis.
Project partners and selected stakeholders from Barcelona, Marseille, Montpellier, Bologna, Thessaloniki, and Tirana gathered to present good practices and address the topic of international cooperation in the promotion of urban and peri-urban agriculture.
The core of the meeting was an open event presenting of ten Italian and European good practices divided in two blocks, the first one being dedicated to “socio-economic production models and peri-urban ecosystem” and the second one to “consumption patterns and community engagement”.
In the afternoon the working group met to debate within partners and stakeholders the needs and steps to set up an international cluster of urban agriculture.
The meeting closed with two technical visits: the Circolo La fattoria, the first urban farm in the city, and FICO, the largest agrifood park in the world, recently opened in the outskirts of Bologna.
MADRE is an innovative project that aims to meet the challenge of promoting Metropolitan & Peri-urban Agriculture (MPA) within key stakeholders and to create a transnational cluster on MPA in the Mediterranean area. MADRE project will capitalize on the wide set of academic knowledges, pilot actions and policies networks, to allow metropolitan agriculture reaching a critical level and to initiate a clustering process. MADRE project started in February 2017 and will last until July 2018 (18 months).
This capitalisation report extracts key lessons from the project, identifying transferable elements that can benefit other Mediterranean cities. The TT-Emploi project, has been implemented in Tangier and Tetouan municipalities as a key initiative to strengthen interinstitutional cooperation to promote professional integration.
MedCities took active part of the launching event in Rabat of the UrbA-CliMa programme in Morrocco, led by GIZ. The programme will help the cities prepare the climate risk analysis and a coherent climate adaptation plans.
MedCities participated at the 19th Plenary Session of the PAM. Secretary General could meet Mrs. Suica, the 1st EU Commissioner for the Mediterranean, and the Roma City Coundil IIRR Director and Advisor to the Mayor.
